WHAT: Vermont Governor’s Tree-Tapping Ceremony
Governor Peter Shumlin will tap a sugar maple tree in celebration of the Vermont sugaring season.
WHEN: The annual Vermont Governor’s Tree-Tapping Ceremony will be held March 10, 2011 at 11:45 a.m.
WHERE: Vermont Academy in Saxton’s River, Vermont.
“I know we all are hoping for a great maple season this year, and I’m pleased to kick it off with the official Governor’s Tree Tapping. Vermont’s maple industry is not only vital to our economy, but it’s also a part of our tradition and heritage,” said Governor Peter Shumlin.
This year’s event is sponsored by the Windham County Maple Producers Association & the Vermont Maple Foundation.
Directions to Vermont Academy
From the south: Take I-91 to Vermont Exit 5. Exit ramp will fork; take LEFT fork (ignoring signs for Routes 5 and 121 and Saxtons River to the right). The road will come to a T; at this intersection turn right onto Back Westminster Road and follow this road for approximately 2 1/2 miles until its junction with Rte. 121. Turn left onto Route 121 and proceed approximately 3 miles to the village of Saxtons River. From Main Street Saxtons River, turn north on Pleasant Street and go to second entrance on the left. Park in the Williams Gymnasium parking lot. Signs should be posted and the Sheriff’s Department will have staff present.
From the north: Take Exit 5 off I-91 South. At the end of the exit ramp, turn right. Follow directions above for “from the south” (see * above).
From the east: Follow Route 2 west to I-91 to Vermont Exit 5. Follow directions above for “from the south” (see * above).
