In these times when stretching budgets is a challenge, Vermont Public Television’s “Public Square” special for the month will highlight under-used programs that can help. The call-in show, airing Thursday, Feb. 25, at 8 p.m., will provide information on 3SquaresVT (formerly food stamps), free meals for school-age children and the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Hal Cohen, executive director of Central Vermont Community Action Council, is featured in a spot running on VPT and on www.vpt.org. He said, “Families may not know that income guidelines for 3Squares and the Earned Income Tax Credit have changed. Now, more Vermont households are eligible.” “Public Square” host Kristin Carlson and panelists will explain how the programs work and what income levels make a household eligible.

Viewers will be invited to call with questions at 1-866-424-LIVE during the hour, which is online at www.vpt.org, as well as on air. The “Public Square” special continues VPT’s efforts to help people cope with tough economic times.

Excerpts of the documentary "Every Child. Every Day.," produced by The Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger, will be included in the program.

Joe Merone is executive producer. Elizabeth Ottinger is community outreach director.
