Shelburne, Vt – In a surprise upset, dairy farmer mascot Clover came away with the trophy at the first mascot competition for Toys for Kids. Organized by the Marine Corp League, mascots from across the state met to compete for toy donations for needy kids.

Clover beat out more seasoned mascots including the Frost Heaves’ Bump and the 96.7 Eagle to garner the most toys. She beguiled the crowd, children and adults alike, with her charm and whimsical way.

Due to strict guidelines that do not allow mascots to speak, Clover was not available for comment, but Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Anson Tebbetts spoke on her behalf. “Clover took this competition very seriously. She went in with her mind set to win. Getting toys for needy kids and helping to educate people about the importance of dairy were her focus.”

The annual toy drive is a volunteer program made possible through the efforts of the Donald Cook Detachment – former Marines and Naval personnel dedicated to getting toys for needy children in Vermont. Toys for Kids is a crucial supplement to other programs in the state that help less fortunate families in Vermont.
