The Buy Local Award is presented annually to a Vermont individual or organization that has made exemplary contributions to developing local markets for Vermont farmers. This year’s recipient will be Meghan Sheradin for her work as Executive Director of the Vermont Fresh Network.
Chef Tom Bivins of the New England Culinary Institute will provide a localvore cooking demonstration and lunch for a small group of Vermont Fresh Network board members and volunteers prior to the award presentation. Lunch invitees will gather at the Chef’s Table at 11:45 am and Chef Tom will begin his demonstration at 12:00 pm.
The presentation and cooking demonstration are occurring as part of Secretary Allbee’s National Farmers Market Week kick off. In recognition of the week, Secretary Allbee has challenged all commissioners of agriculture in the country to commit to eating only local foods for at least one day between August 3rd and August 9th.
