Anson Tebbetts Appointed Deputy Secretary of Agriculture

December 19, 2006

Montpelier, Vt. – Long time Vermont newsman and family farmer Anson Tebbetts has been appointed Deputy Secretary for Development at the Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets.

Newly appointed agriculture secretary Roger Allbee said Tebbetts has the right mix of expertise and enthusiasm.

“Anson brings a strong combination of skills to our team and understands as well as anyone the challenges and opportunities we have ahead us,” Allbee said. “He will be a valuable member of our team as we seek to strengthen and develop markets for our agricultural products and fight to bring consistent profitability and prosperity to our family farms as Governor Douglas has charged us to do.”

“I’m very excited to serve the people of Vermont and look forward to working with Governor Douglas, Secretary Allbee, Deputy Secretary Lane and the entire team at the Agency to grow our existing markets and develop new opportunities for every part of our agriculture industry,” Tebbetts said.

Tebbetts, 41, of Cabot is a 1983 graduate of Cabot High School and received a B.A. from Emerson College in 1987. In addition to his experience operating a small family farm, Tebbetts is a past president of the Vermont Associated Press Broadcast Association, a former Cabot School Board member, and is currently a trustee of the Fairbanks Museum in St. Johnsbury.

Tebbetts is currently a senior reporter for WCAX-TV, where he has worked since 1994. He has received numerous awards from the Associated Press and been a regular contributor to the Vermont political exchange. In 2000, he hosted a Vermont Public Television series focusing on the future of farming in Vermont. Prior to joining WCAX, Tebbetts was news director at WDEV radio.

Tebbetts will begin his new post on January 8, 2007.
