Lead Testing Resources

The Vermont Department of Agriculture, Food & Markets has set an action level for lead in maple syrup for 2000 at 250 ppb (parts per billion). Department personnel will provide technical assistance to sugarmakers found to be over this level during sampling. In addition, our Laboratory section has conducted a Maple/lead check sample program with interested labs to determine their proficiency in analyzing maple syrup for lead content.

The following are labs that have demonstrated proficiency and are interested in doing private analysis of lead in maple syrup.
