There are many options for community groups and non-profit organizations to raise project funding. Below are links to organizations that maintain directories of funding sources. Please note that some groups also work with private businesses that consult on fundraising or financial development, which are not listed here.
The Vermont Community Foundation has organized a page of useful resources for non-profit organizations, including a link to the Vermont Directory of Foundations: www.vermontcf.org
Federal grants are posted in an online database at: http://www.first.gov. The National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service provides information about federal funding opportunities specific to sustainable agriculture: http://attra.ncat.org/.
Small groups without formal non-profit status might benefit from resources at the New England Grassroots Environment Fund, which provides technical assistance in addition to its funding: http://www.grassrootsfund.org/
NOFA-VT links to resources for organic and sustainable agriculture, along with particular project areas including farm-to-school, CSA’s and farmers’ markets: www.nofavt.org
The Vermont Council on Rural Development hosts a Creative Economy website that includes projects from around the state that combine culture, community and economy. Part of this site includes a resource guide for a variety of projects (including agricultural), compiled by service providers from around the state in 2006-2007. www.vtrural.org.
