Mission Statement

The Agricultural Development Division was created in 1975 to increase the economic viability of Vermont's agricultural sector. Agricultural Development's statutory responsibilities (detailed in 6V.S.A. 2963) are summarized as follows:

• to increase the agricultural uses of land and other resources;
• to develop and maintain price reporting systems and producer directories;
• to identify and develop new markets and products;
• to develop identification and advertising programs for Vermont products; and
• to promote research on agricultural products.

These legislative mandates have led to Agricultural Development's activity and leadership role in developing local, regional, national and international markets for Vermont products.

For Vermont's agricultural industry to remain viable and sustainable, it must remain profitable. The primary goal of the Agricultural Development Division is to encourage the profitability of Vermont agriculture through the development of a sound business infrastructure.
