The Image of Vermont Agriculture

“There is a definite soul to the work of tilling the land and husbandry of animals. There exists a solitude and loneliness in the work, often not recognized even by close friends.

The landscape of Vermont exists because of agriculture (and an agricultural economy) shaping it.”

Reed Prescott, Lincoln, "Twin Maple Farm" (Oil on Canvas)

The ten works of art that follow are the result of a statewide competition for Vermont artists sponsored by the Vermont Department of Agriculture. Although Vermont agriculture is the common theme, each artist has taken a unique, personal approach to the subject.

We invite you to explore these works not just for their beauty, but also for the content that each artist has woven into their personal vision of Vermont agriculture. One of these works will be chosen by the Department of Agriculture to accompany their print and electronic media and represent the “Image of Vermont Agriculture.” All works are for sale by the artists.
