Program Summary: The Vermont seed law is modeled after the Recommended Uniform State Seed Law (RUSSL) as adopted by the American Association of Seed Control Officials (AASCO). Most of the provisions of RUSSL are found within our regulations, not our law. There have been some significant changes to the RUSSL; as a result, the Agency is in the process of revising the regulations to reflect these changes. Until the revised regulations have been through the review and public comment process, we are using the current RUSSL as a reference.
Under VT Law, all seed companies must register annually and pay a $75.00 registration fee. In addition, for those companies selling seed in bulk (containers > 10 lbs), they must pay a fee of $0.35 per hundredweight. The registration staff handles sending out these notices and processing the applications.
