  Land Treatment Planning

Although a Land Treatment Plan (LTP) is not itself required for Vermont farms, it provides the core data needed to develop a nutrient management plan (NMP). A NMP, however, is required for all Medium Farm Operations (MFOs) by March 31, 2008, is currently required for all Large Farm Operations (LFOs), and is encouraged for Small Farm Operations (SFOs).

A Land Treatment Plan includes:

  • An interview and a detailed farm description;
  • A field-by-field resource assessment including a calculation of soil loss using RUSLE2;
  • An assessment of manure and waste storage;
  • Planning alternatives to address resource concerns;
  • A conservation plan summarizing planning alternatives;
  • Maps of soils, streams, and farm resources; and
  • Information for the operation and maintenance of farm conservation practices.
